After guiding his side to a 5-0 FA Youth Cup Third Round victory over Cheltenham Town, Leicester City Under-18s manager Trevor Peake credited his side’s positive forward play.

The young Foxes found themselves 3-0 up at the break thanks to a Layton Ndukwu brace and Admiral Muskwe’s header, before Muskwe added a fourth shortly after half-time.

Captain Darnell Johnson eventually rounded off the scoring in a game that saw City advance to the fourth round of the competition to set up a clash with either Blackburn Rovers or Southend United.

Peake told Foxes Player HD: “We made a really good start. We could have scored a couple of goals in the first two minutes, which gave us a bit of confidence going forward.

“To go in 3-0 up at half-time was a bonus for us. We saw the game off in good style. We could have maybe had a couple more.

“It’s obviously always good to progress in a cup competition. We know our opponents are either Blackburn or Southend and it’ll be an away fixture, so it’ll be a different ground for our lads to play at.”

Peake went on to explain how several members of Wednesday evening’s side proudly made their King Power Stadium debuts.

Happy to see the Club’s youngsters gaining that type of valuable experience, Peake added: “We’re really pleased. Every year we have players that haven’t yet played in the FA Youth Cup, especially at King Power Stadium.

“There were five players who made their King Power Stadium debut against Cheltenham and I think they handled it quite well mentally.

“We’ve got some good attacking players within the Club at this age group and it’s good to get back to scoring a couple of goals and get back on track.”
