With three huge Barclays Premier League games on the horizon for Leicester City, goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel insists the team will not change their mentality.

The Foxes take on Liverpool at King Power Stadium on Tuesday night, before trips to Manchester City and Arsenal, but it’s the strength of mind and self belief within the squad that Schmeichel feels can continue to help the team upset the odds.

It’s an approach that has worked well so far this term, with City sitting three points clear at the top of the Premier League table going into February, although they face a tough test against the Reds.

The two sides met as recently as Boxing Day at Anfield, with Liverpool triumphing 1-0 thanks to a strike from Christian Benteke in the second half of what was a tight game.

And while that means City know just how hard it will be, Schmeichel has confidence that the Foxes carry plenty of threats themselves.

“It’s Liverpool. They’re a top side with a top squad,” Schmeichel told Foxes Player HD. “They’ve got threats all over the pitch. We’re very wary of what they’re capable of but obviously they’re at our place and they’ll have to be wary of what we’re capable of as well.

“We haven’t really watched too much of them other than the lead up to our game. They’re a high-pressure team and they press high. They’re also one of only two teams to beat us this season and they’ll be looking to get three points.

“This is what you play for, these kind of high pressure games and it’s a period that everyone is just relishing.”

With City’s unexpected surge to the summit continuing much longer than many had envisioned, there have been some asking the question about how long their incredible run can last.

But there is plenty of winning experience in the City dressing room, with many players, including Schmeichel, who were part of the Championship title winning season as well as the stunning run of results towards the end of last term that ensured survival.

He explained: “The position we’re in, we’ve been in it in the Championship too, but obviously now we’re in a much higher league and the attention is much higher.

“At the end of the day it’s football and it’s a league system. The mentality stays the same and the one thing you can say about this group is that nobody gets carried away. Everyone is level headed about the situation, like we were when we were in the Championship. We carry on and do what we’ve been doing.

“The winning feeling and winning mentality is something that’s very important to have. Finding a way of winning games in the Premier League is very difficult but for the last year we’ve consistently found a way to get good results.

“Confidence is high but with this group the good thing is that nobody gets carried away. The mood was the same when we bottom of the league to how it is now. There’s the same amount of focus, belief and desire.”
