- LCFC Women defeated Derby County 4-0 in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup- Janice Cayman was among the goalscorers during Sunday’s fourth round tie- The Belgium international spoke about the professionalism of the team’s display
A 4-0 success booked City’s place in the fifth round of the competition, where they will host Birmingham City. with Cayman netting the second of the afternoon, via a well taken finish, after Lena Petermann’s opener. Deanne Rose also opened her LCFC account in the Midlands derby rout. “It was a good performance from us,” the Belgian said following full-time at Don Amott Arena. “Derby did a very good job, especially first half, to keep a low block and make it very compact and difficult for us to play.
“But I think once we got the goals it was good and the clean sheet as well. We were prepared for it. During the week we thought they might come out with a low block, and they shifted well, but we also know that it is hard to do this for 90 minutes.
“We had to be patient and keep on trying to make the combinations and I think this paid off in the second half. It was a good game for us. We prepared the same as we would for a WSL game.
“It important for us today that we showed respect to Derby. We know they are having a good season as well and even though they are a lower level, it’s a cup game so we needed to be ourselves and show that we are Leicester. There were a lot of people here today and we felt their support. It’s good to see.”
New recruits Saori Takarada and Yuka Momiki debuted for the Foxes, with Willie Kirk making use of his squad by introducing five substitutes during the second half, including Canada winger Rose, who scored her maiden Leicester goal. It proved to be good preparation for Friday’s Barclays Women’s Super League clash with Aston Villa. The 35-year-old continued: "They (Takarada and Momiki) are a real positive impact for our team and are both very good on the ball. They bring a different type of football to the team and I think it will be very good to play more games with them and see how they can help us.
“The girls that came on the pitch today made an impact and Deanne was very happy at the end to get her first goal. We played a solid game and it’s something to build on for next game.
“Now it’s important to have a quick turnaround, be good in practice and prepare well for the Villa game and then we'll be ready for Friday.”
