- Leicester City face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday- The fixture could be crucial for both sides’ Premier League seasons- Ricardo Pereira gave his pre-match views to LCFC TV earlier this week- A draw at Brentford last time out provides something to build on, he said
The Foxes headed into the international break following a 1-1 draw at Brentford, a result which could turn out to be an important point in the context of the current situation, ending a run of four straight defeats.
The team’s fight and resilience was on display in the capital, coming back into the game after conceding the first goal at Gtech Community Stadium to pick up a first away draw of 2022/23.
“It was good to break the momentum,” the defender admitted. “I think we did a lot of things that were good in the previous games, but then you look to the result and you don’t have points from them. It was a difficult game against a very good side.
“They are having a very good season. We had some periods in the game that we struggled a little bit, but we also had our moments where we were stronger in the game. I would say that point was fair.”
Harbouring frustrations from the recent run of form, the full-back is confident that the latest break provided a chance to hit the reset button both on and off the pitch, with the group feeling refreshed and ready to go again ahead of a significant period in the season.
The Portugal international continued: “When we had the break, we had a chance to regroup, to keep the work going and keep doing what we are doing. I think we are doing a lot of things well.
“But some are not so good and it’s costing us points. We need to be more clinical in those small points to help to get the wins. It’s hard though when you are on this run of results. You play but you don’t win.
“At the same time, I don’t see anyone giving up. I see everyone working and doing their best to change things. For sure, we will be rewarded - I hope that starts on Saturday.”
This weekend’s fixture sees Leicester travel to Crystal Palace for a 3pm BST kick-off, facing a side just two points ahead in the Premier League standings. On the challenge the visitors will face in south London, Ricardo pointed to the arrival of manager Roy Hodgson and the atmosphere that could be created at Selhurst Park as a result.
“It’s someone who knows the club,” the 29-year-old explained. “The majority of players will know the coach. It will change the dynamic and it will be maybe a little bit of a boost for their confidence. We have to be ready for that. We’ve played there before, we know what to expect. We need to be careful.”
