On Friday afternoon, the Manager spoke to the media about City’s upcoming challenge at Broadfield Stadium, identifying what threats the Seagulls will bring to the game, as Leicester look to get back to winning ways following the international break.
Here are the main talking points from Belvoir Drive…
Previewing Brighton
Sunday’s opponents head into the weekend currently one point behind the Foxes, but on a good run of form which recently saw them pick up a 1-0 win against Manchester City at Joie Stadium.
“They’ve had some fantastic results,” The Scotsman voiced. “Their opening day victory up at Everton was impressive, and obviously had a big three points against Man City and a draw against Man Utd.
“Their results have been impressive, and they’re a team full of international teams like most WSL teams are nowadays. They have some really good attacking threats this year like Elisabeth Terland who has scored five goals.
“Katie Robinson we all know is a rising England star so their attacking threats are fantastic and we need to be aware of that going into the weekend.”
Hannah Cain’s setback
It was announced last weekend that Hannah Cain had suffered an ACL injury while on international duty with Wales. The former Everton manager explained how she is a fighter, and the Club are willing to help however they can.
“She’s putting a brave face on it, she’s deeply upset as is everybody,” Kirk commented. “We know how hard she’s worked to get back from the previous one and she was on good form.
“She’s disappointed but we’ll support her through it and give her everything she needs. She’ll come back as a better player I’m sure, like she did last time.
“As a manager you don’t want anybody to be out for that length of time but she’s got a smile on her face at the moment. Maybe it being Christmas helps with that, but we’re here to support her through this time.”
Signing Saori Takarada
On Friday afternoon, the signing of Japanese international Saori Takarada was met with excitement from the Foxes faithful, who will have to wait until January to see the new player in action.
Kirk does believe it’ll be worth the wait when she joins up with Leicester in the new year and has already identified her best position on the football pitch.
“Saori is an exceptional technician,” Kirk stated. “I’ve seen a lot about people talking about what she brings to the pitch, but I see her position as a no.6, where she is outstanding. Her awareness is great, her out of possession abilities are amazing. She starts builds and progresses the ball well.
“When she was young, she played as a forward and finished as one of the top goalscorers in an international tournament, but she’s changed quite a bit since then and has even played full-back.
“More recently she’s played in that midfield role and that’s where we think she will fit in with us. She’s a great person and has been fitting in really well and we’re excited to see her come back in the new year.”
