- LCFC Women have signed defender Georgia Eaton-Collins- The defender represented Florida Gators during her time in America- Eaton-Collins is joining up with the team as they prepare for Women’s FA Cup fixture against Reading- The new signing has described herself as a ball-playing centre-back
Following the arrivals of Remy Siemsen, Janina Leitzig and Courtney Nevin, Leicester continue to strengthen their backline with the recruitment of centre-back Eaton-Collins.
Growing up in Ipswich, the 22-year-old has spent the last four years in the south of the USA, while studying at University of Florida and University of Central Florida, graduating with a degree in Sports Management.
On the field, City’s new signing has featured for the university team – UCF Knights in the National Collegiate Athletics Association Division 1 (NCAA), and Florida Gators.
“I’m really excited to be here and get my first professional contract after being in America,” Eaton-Collins told LCFC TV in her first interview with the Club. “I’m ready to get going.
“It’s a great training ground, obviously it’s of a high standard, I don’t think you get much better than this, so it’s great to officially be in and training with the girls.
“It’s a different experience (playing in America compared to England), and there are differences in the physicality and athleticism side, so it’s helped me to work on those attributes and return to England with a more rounded style of play.”
Impressed by the Foxes’ display against Brighton – a 3-0 win at King Power Stadium earlier this month – the 22-year-old was keen to sign with City and bring her strengths to a squad who face Reading in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup Fourth Round this Sunday (4pm GMT kick-off) at Pirelli Stadium.
She added: “I’m a centre-back, who likes to possess the ball and start attacks by finding forward passes. On the defensive side, I do like to put a tackle in, and I think I’m good at reading the game and when in one-on-one battles.
“Willie [Kirk] has emphasised to me the turning point for the team. I know they’ve had some close results before the break, but getting the win against Brighton, which I watched, was a promising change for the team and hopefully we can keep the momentum going.”
