Prior to their meeting with the Reds on Sunday afternoon (2pm GMT kick-off), the Foxes were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City at King Power Stadium.
Now looking ahead to a trip to Merseyside, Kirk spoke to the media during his press conference at Belvoir Drive on Friday to preview the WSL clash.
Man City defeat
Leicester were able to hold the Citizens off for over an hour, but second half goals from Khadija Shaw and Chloe Kelly handed the Foxes defeat on Saturday afternoon.
However, the manager believes the strength and credibility of the Manchester outfit could have played a part in their downfall, but confirms they are working on their approach.
“I think it can be a big mental challenge (playing against a top team), as well as a technical, tactical and physical challenge,” Kirk explained. “I think physically we're in a place where we can play against anybody now, but I just felt that the team never really did themselves justice, never gave themselves enough credit and had enough belief.
“I made some changes at half-time, which in hindsight, were probably wrong. So again, I think if we're being honest as a group, we've also got to admit our own mistakes, and that's one where I probably was a little bit too stubborn and went to plan B regardless of how plan A was going.”
Team transparency
After the Man City loss, Kirk was keen to outline his new tactic with the team, where honesty and transparency resides at the forefront of every agenda.
“I think it's important that I understand things that they are thinking and doing on the pitch, and they understand where I'm coming from,” he continued.
“We explain to the players on matchday plus one, why I picked the starting line-up, why I made the subs and I think it just brings real clarity to the situation, and it helps us learn and helps us move on.”
A positive attitude
Still bottom of the standings with three points, the 44-year-old stated that the Club are not worried about the table at this stage, and are still working on the important job at hand.
“To be honest, every game out of the top four, I feel we can compete with and win against anyone on our day," the former Everton manager stated. "Especially if we play at the level, like we did against Brighton.
“As long as we've done our homework properly, and we've had a really good training week, I think we're going into the game positive and feeling like we can win it.”
Looking at Liverpool
Previewing this weekend’s opponents, the manager admits that the Reds will pose a serious threat to City’s attempt of gaining points, but believes this task is not impossible, and has spotted key figures in the team to watch out for.
The ex-Everton manager added: “They had a good victory last week, which I'm sure has picked them up a little bit. I think a club the size of Liverpool, I'm sure they've got lofty ambitions, and this season probably hasn't all gone as well as they'd have thought. Especially after starting with a victory against Chelsea.
“I think after that, everybody was talking about them challenging the top four, which was always going to be tough just coming up from the Barclays Women's Championship. But they've got a number of players with quality, like Katie Stengel, Melissa Lawley, and Fuka Nagano, the new midfielder that they've got, who I think is a fantastic talent.
“So they've got some top individuals, and I think they've had a decent January window, but look, we don't take anybody lightly. We fully respect them, and we'll analyse them and will train to play against them, and that's what we've done.”
