- Sheffield Wednesday are Leicester City’s next Sky Bet Championship opponents- The Owls visit King Power Stadium on Tuesday night (7:45pm kick-off)- Defender Ben Nelson previewed the fixture following his first league start- He also reflected on a hard-earned three points at Watford on Saturday
A hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Hornets at Vicarage Road on Saturday saw the Foxes maintain the 11-point lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship. It was a memorable day for Nelson, making his first league start for the Club. Looking accomplished on the ball and defending well, the 19-year-old earned plaudits for his display.
“It’s a big milestone to make my full league debut in the Championship,” the youngster revealed. “It was a brilliant feeling. There were a few nerves, but that’s only natural. I felt like, when I got on the pitch, I just did what I usually do. I’ve got the confidence to do that.
“They were pushing towards the end, but we did brilliantly to see it out. We had some defending to do in the game, but we did well, and then we controlled the ball.”
The defender felt the belief from his Manager was key to helping him ease into the First Team squad this season and hopes to be able to impress further should he be given the opportunity.
“With our squad, we’ve got plenty of quality,” the Academy graduate explained. “We’ve just got to trust ourselves with where we are. It gives you a lot of confidence to come into this team.
“He (Enzo Maresca) just wants me to play the way I can, with confidence, playing forward when possible and obviously defend well. When the gaffer gives you that confidence that if you do make a mistake, it doesn’t matter. That’s what he wants to see and it definitely helps you think about playing forward more.”
Now heading towards Tuesday evening’s clash with Wednesday, a 7:45pm kick-off at King Power Stadium, Maresca’s men have 75 points and are targeting taking another step towards the ultimate goal of promotion. Having drawn 1-1 in the reverse fixture at Hillsborough, City are keen to right the wrongs from a frustrating night in Yorkshire.
“It’s another tough game,” Nelson added. “Every game in this league is tough so we’ve got to be on it again. It’s not long to recover but I’m sure we’ll be back on it.
“We’ve looked through that (the first game) a lot. It’s come up in a lot of meetings so obviously we want to make a change on that and not repeat. It’s just about winning games, keeping the momentum up and try and get another win in the league.”
