Bournemouth head into Sunday’s game against City (7pm kick-off) off the back of a goalless draw with Spurs on Tuesday. The home side looked to have won the game in injury time when Callum Wilson netted, only for VAR to rule out the goal, due to a handball by Josh King.
Williams, who also spent time as Bournemouth’s assistant manager, says the result will provide the Cherries with the confidence they need to approach the Foxes clash in a positive manner.
“The games that we’ve played since the restart have been very disappointing by our standards,” he admitted, speaking to LCFC TV's City On The Sofa show, on air from 6pm on Sunday. “We’re an attacking, football team but in the previous four games, we didn’t show it and conceded an awful lot of goals.
“But there seemed to be a different sort of team come out against Tottenham and we dominated the first half. The VAR decision and the way things went, it was a bit unlucky.
“Hopefully it’s going to start us off again because we certainly needed to stop the rot and picking up that first point could be immense and a real boost in the changing room as well as on the pitch and for the supporters.
“It could just give everybody a massive lift to get that point and not only that but the performance that the lads put on was fantastic.
“There were three or four of the players that had their best games ever for the Club, so we’re looking forward to the Leicester game.”
Despite sitting 18th in the table, three points from safety, Williams believes Eddie Howe’s side have been unlucky in certain games, which has contributed to their disappointing position.
However, the fight shown against José Mourinho’s men means there is still everything to play for, with four games remaining in the current campaign.
“We’re in a much better place now than before the Manchester United game,” he added. “It wasn’t really a 5-2 game and we did have periods of the game where we played quite well.
“But when they start firing goals into the top corner and scoring direct from free-kicks, that’s the difference.
“The top six teams have players who are quite capable of winning games on their own and that’s the way it was against United.
"The Tottenham game was completely different. We got in good wide positions, we got crosses in and we worked the goalkeeper - something we hadn’t done previously - so there were lots of plusses, even though we know it’s going to be a difficult game against Leicester.
“You rarely win games unless you play well. At this moment in time, the performance is a massive thing.”
Looking ahead to Sunday’s fixture at Vitality Stadium, Williams has identified the Cherries’ forward partnership of Wilson and King as being vital to Howe’s chances getting a positive result out of the game.
He continued: “Both of them dovetail off one another and they were the difference when we played Tottenham. They were rampant and they got the ball in the net but unfortunately it went against us.
“Of course with Leicester, we’ve got a history of a lot of draws over the years and it’s going to be interesting. I think we’ve got a really tough game coming up.
“We’ll be going all out for a win, as Leicester will of course, so we should be looking at a game with some goals in there.”
