- Dariya Konurbaeva provides an insight into how Spartak Moscow may approach Thursday’s UEFA Europa League match- The Sports.Ru Sports Journalist spoke of Spartak’s confidence after they scored three goals against Leicester City last month- The Foxes welcome the Russian side to Leicester City Stadium on matchday four in Group C
The Russian outfit were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Rostov over the weekend, conceding a 95th-minute goal despite taking a late lead themselves in Moscow.
Although their latest away fixture ended in a 7-1 humbling by Zenit Saint Petersburg, Konurbaeva believes Rui Vitória's men may play with less pressure when they come to Leicester for the Group C showdown. “I think that’s what they’re hoping for,” she said, when asked about the goalscoring ability they displayed against the Foxes. “They want to score some goals, they want to score, and they’ve got a very good record against Napoli – they scored a few very good goals away.
“For some reason, the pressure is less when they’re not at their own stadium. Maybe they can be more confident and play more openly. We don’t know how it’s going to be on Thursday, but Spartak can be dangerous."
While Spartak ultimately lost out to City in a seven-goal thriller, Konurbaeva knows they will be buoyed by their ability to find the net, having done so on three occasions at Otkrytie Bank Arena. “Some of the fans were disappointed, of course, because they started this game very well and usually if they’re up in the first 15 or 20 minutes, they're more likely to win the game itself,” she added.
“It’s not a theme this season, but it’s been that way for the past few seasons. I spoke with some of my colleagues in Moscow, and they said: ‘That’s a team from the Premier League, that’s what we’re dealing with here’.”
