After steadying the ship in the Barclays Women’s Super League with a point against Tottenham Hotspur, the Foxes’ focus turns to the League Cup as they tackle an unbeaten Man City in the competition.
Speaking earlier this week, here are the key talking points from Willie Kirk's analysis of Spurs and a busy few days ahead…
Drawing with Spurs
Janice Cayman scored her second goal in as many games to get City back on track with a point against high-flying Spurs at King Power Stadium last weekend, but the Manager believes his side had more to give.
“We’re a little bit frustrated,” Kirk told LCFC.com. “We think it’s a missed opportunity. I felt like it was a winnable game, but it is a point more than we had at the start of the day and it has broken that run of losses.
“We’ve certainly answered any questions we had about was there a hangover from last week (against Arsenal). We’ve been training well, and we had a fantastic opening 20 minutes, we just took our foot off the gas a little bit and couldn’t reapply it.”
Eyes on Man City
This week’s first opponents are Man City, who head into the fixture off the back of a Manchester Derby victory on Sunday evening but were beaten by Brighton & Hove Albion in a shock result beforehand.
Keen to take something from the game, Kirk is looking for a quick turnaround with his side before heading north in the aim of building on an opening game victory over Liverpool.
The 45-year-old continued: “That first win against Liverpool is really important because it gives us a platform to try and build on to make sure we qualify. We need to go to Manchester and make sure we take something from the game.
“If you can draw the game and take a bonus point on penalties then that’s great, but we’ll be looking to win the game and that would put us in a good position to progress.”
The Group B standings
Following confirmation that Manchester United would join Leicester’s group, following their elimination from the UEFA Women's Champions League, Kirk addressed the current standings and what he hopes to get out of the cup competition.
“It’s an open group,” the former Everton manager continued. “We know that two second place teams will also qualify, so if we can’t top the group, we want to have as many points as we can in second place.
“It’s a competition that we’re taking seriously, although there is no way we’ll be able to put out the same starting XI, so there will be opportunities for other players.
“People that could’ve had more minutes today against Spurs might get more of an opportunity in the next game, but we’ll be aiming to have as little changes as possible. The changes will be to win the game rather than handing out minutes.”
