- Ayoze Pérez says Leicester City must be consistent if they are to finish in a European position in 2019/20- The City No.17 was speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley (3pm kick-off)- Free coverage of the fixture will be available on LCFC Radio from 12pm on matchday
City have won four of their eight matches and have only suffered two defeats – away to 20-time champions of England Manchester United, and current UEFA Champions League holders Liverpool.
Pérez says the Foxes are hoping to achieve European football this term, but knows there is plenty of hard work to come if they are to fulfil their potential. Pérez said: “Getting in European positions is, especially, something important. Obviously, it’s not going to be easy, but with this group of talented players, the way we are working and the ambition of the Club and the manager, we can definitely make it.
“But it could be a mistake to think about that now. There’s a long way to go, we finish the league in May. It’s a long road, we have to win as regularly as possible, and hopefully, we can keep this momentum high.”
For Pérez, to bring European football back to the city of Leicester would be special, but City must be prepared to navigate some difficult moments this term.
“That would be an amazing achievement, something very special for this club, this city,” he said. “Hopefully, we can make something as special as that, but there’s still a long way [to go].
“It’s going to be a tough season with some moments, so we have to be strong enough to deal with it, and we have to be ready for it.”
