- Leicester City host Burnley at King Power Stadium on Sunday night (7pm kick-off)- Brendan Rodgers expects the Clarets to match City's fitness levels despite it being their Premier League opener- City defeated West Bromwich Albion 3-0 at the Hawthorns last weekend, while Burnley have recently been in Carabao Cup action- Rodgers also discussed how much he and his players miss the Blue Army in behind-closed-doors fixtures
The 3-0 triumph over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns last weekend was City's 2020/21 league opener, while the Clarets' visit to King Power Stadium will be their maiden outing.
Sean Dyche's men did, though, enjoy a penalty shootout victory over Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening - and Rodgers expects them to be ready for Sunday.
"I don’t think it gives anyone an advantage really," he explained. "Obviously, Sean’s team played in the cup and those players will, I’m sure, be playing at the weekend.
"I think, at this stage, with so few games, I don’t think there’s any advantage. I think all teams are still looking to get to a level of fitness that they won’t be at yet.
"Of course, these games are coming quickly, and that will help us to do that, but the difficulty of the game will certainly be there and we have to be ready for it."
Rodgers admits he and his colleagues - as well as the first team squad - are missing the Blue Army on Filbert Way as matches continue to be played behind closed doors.
However, the Northern Irishman says the Club will continue to follow advice on what is best for the safety of all as the football world continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Safety is of paramount importance," he continued. "I think there’s absolutely no doubt, we all miss the supporters. We’re at a stage now as managers where you really do miss the support.
"Certainly, for the likes of ourselves, that connection between our players and the supporters is huge and there’s no doubt that’s a real miss for us.
"If it’s safe to do it, I think we all want to see supporters back. That safety element is so important and I’m sure the people responsible for that will continue to ensure that is the case.
"Hopefully, at some point in the future, we can get supporters into the games and then gradually build it back to the stadiums being full.
"We’ve heard for years how football is nothing without the supporters and, okay, we’re still playing and the players have been great, but the supporters really make it.
"Hopefully, at the right time, when it’s safe and we’re able to do so, we’ll get supporters back."
