- Ricardo Pereira has previewed Leicester City’s next Premier League encounter- The full-back speaks to CITY ahead of facing Arsenal on Saturday- He returned to the pitch against Tottenham Hotspur two weeks ago- The matchday publication will be available to purchase on Filbert Way
An Achilles injury suffered in pre-season saw the Portuguese full-back miss the first half of the campaign, before his long-awaited return came as a late substitute during the 4-1 success at home to Spurs. Ahead of Leicester’s latest Premier League fixture at King Power Stadium – a 3pm kick-off against Arsenal on Saturday - the 29-year-old sat down with the Club’s official matchday publication to discuss that moment in front of the Blue Army. “It’s very good to be back training with the lads,” he told CITY earlier this week. “Especially when it’s the competitive sessions. I’ve missed that side for a long time. My appearance against Tottenham was really special as well.
“I came into the game when we were winning and the fans were amazing; the warm welcome from them was special. Of course, I want to play as much as I can and as long as I keep doing my best I shall keep taking it day-by-day.
“Right from the beginning since I first arrived I have felt the love to me here. So for me, I always do my best in training and in games for the supporters and everyone else at the Club and to play here is good.”
Defeated by Manchester United at Old Trafford last time out, City’s next encounter comes against another title-chasing side in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, with Pereira expecting a similarly tough test. But backed by the home crowd, he is confident that Brendan Rodgers’ side are in a good position to continue the form shown in recent weeks. The defender explained: “They are top of the league and that says it all. They are playing really well this season; they have been competitive in every game and they have been consistent too. They will try to keep that going of course and we will have to be at our best to beat them.
“We were very impressive against Tottenham. We were aggressive, we created lots of chances, we scored goals, we didn’t give them space and we didn’t give them many opportunities to create. We showed all the qualities we know we have here in that game, we showed our level and of course as a team we would love to do that again.”
