- Leicester City scored some great goals in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Stoke City, says Harvey Barnes- The England winger netted City’s fourth and final goal, following strikes from James Justin, Marc Albrighton and Ayoze Pérez- Barnes has now found the net nine times in all competitions for Leicester this term
Academy graduate Barnes, 23, rounded off the scoring at bet365 Stadium, adding to goals from James Justin, Marc Albrighton and Ayoze Pérez to help City beat Michael O’Neill’s side in Staffordshire. Barnes has now netted three times in his last four appearances in all competitions, and says he has been thrilled with his goalscoring return in 2020/21.
“When I’ve been in good form, you get a bit of confidence, and I think in front of goal, I feel really confident that I’m going to get the ball and have chances in the game,” he told LCFC TV. “At the minute, they’re going in and I’m really happy with that. “There were times in the game where we played really well, and we scored some great goals today as well. We’re really happy with that, but it was important that we didn’t let them have any hope in the game.
“Their formation change probably did help us. We got a bit more attacking fluency throughout and played some really good football in the end.”
Justin’s opening strike – the pick of the goals – unlocked a defiant Stoke defence, and England international Barnes revealed it’s not the first time that he’s seen his team-mate find the net in such fashion.
“He was really happy with that one,” Barnes continued. “We’ve seen him do it in training all the time and it’s just getting him into those positions. We know he can do it, so credit to him today. He’s scored a great goal.
“Whoever you get you just want to progress, so we’re really happy to get through today and whoever we get, we’ll be looking to get through to the next round again.”
