- Leicester City welcome Ipswich Town to King Power Stadium on Monday- Striker Tom Cannon has previewed the encounter with CITY, the official programme- The former Everton man has spoken about the backing of the Blue Army
The Sky Bet Championship leaders host second-placed Ipswich at King Power Stadium on Monday as Enzo Maresca's look to recover from a 3-1 reverse to East Midlands rivals Coventry City last time out. Cannon, who has broken into the starting XI over the winter months after a back injury, scored twice in a New Year's Day success over Huddersfield Town before also netting in the Emirates FA Cup victory at Millwall. Ahead of this latest outing, an 8pm GMT kick-off on Filbert Way, the former Everton striker spoke with optimism despite the scale of the challenge which Kieran McKenna's Tractor Boys are likely to pose.
"We played them away not so long ago and that was a tough game so I’m sure the boys will be expecting the same," Cannon said at Seagrave earlier this week, speaking during an interview for Monday's matchday programme.
"It’s a good game to bounce back in after the defeat in the derby so there’s no better game to go out there and get the three points."
Cannon has joined a talented strike force at City and he is enjoying learning from his forward colleagues in north Leicestershire.
"The quality in training is very high and when you’ve got quality players in front of you, you kind of need to bide your time," he added. "As a young lad, I can come in and learn from them because they’ve got that experience.
"All I need to do is take little bits from Vards (Jamie Vardy), Kel (Kelechi Iheanacho) and Pat (Patson Daka) and implement each little thing into my own game. "Obviously, at the same time, I’m my own player so I need to focus on what I’m good at too and take it from there."
The Blue Army has warmed to Cannon quickly and the Republic of Ireland youth international is grateful for their support.
"I’ve heard them singing my name on the pitch and there’s no better feeling," the 21-year-old said. "That connection with the fans is great and the fact I’ve got that already is very good."
