Steve Beaglehole’s Foxes fell at the Round 2 stage last term but are in fine form this season, unbeaten in 12, ahead of the trip to Glanford Park to tackle Sky Bet League 1 opposition.
As preparations continue, here is everything you need to know…
City on a roll
On Friday night, Josh Eppiah's volley helped Leicester City’s Under-23s stretch their unbeaten run to 12 with a 2-1 win at Everton in the Premier League Cup.
An own goal from Fraser Hornby handed Beaglehole’s side an advantage before a leveller from Toffees skipper Morgan Feeney after the interval at Merseyrail Community Stadium.
Eppiah, however, pounced five minutes later with a fearsome volley to seal all three points for the Foxes, leaving them four clear at the top of Group F after three matches.
Beaglehole’s pride
City’s conviction to push for a winner at Everton pleased manager Beaglehole on Friday.
“It was a tough game, which I knew it would be,” Beaglehole reflected with LCFC TV. “It wasn’t a pitch we could play good football on, but I thought we started the game really, really well.
“We’ve played better than this before so to come here and not be at our best but get a great win like this shows how far we’ve come in the last six months.”
Checkatrade Trophy story so far
City’s campaign opened with a 3-0 reverse at Fleetwood Town, a disappointing result, but one which served as motivation for Beaglehole’s men to go on a wonderful run.
In October, a 1-0 victory over Carlisle United restored the Foxes’ hope of reaching Round 2 with Layton Ndukwu finding the net in the first half at Brunton Park.
While initially frustrated by a 4-2 defeat on penalties last month, the one point gained from a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes at Morecambe was ultimately enough for the Foxes to progress.
Scunthorpe in focus
The Iron’s 3-0 defeat by Doncaster in the Emirates FA Cup Second Round was out of character for his side, manager Graham Alexander felt at full-time.
Two goals Tommy Rowe and a late finish from Liam Mandeville condemned United to defeat at Keepmoat Stadium to curtail a five-game winning run in all competitions.
“It was a down day for everybody,” Alexander told scunthorpe-united.co.uk. “We’ve had them before and we’ll have them again but it’s important we hit the heights we can.”
