- Leicester City defeated AFC Bournemouth 1-0 in the Emirates FA Cup on Tuesday- The Foxes reached the quarter-finals courtesy of Abdul Fatawu’s extra-time goal- Hamza Choudhury assessed a confidence-boosting return to winning ways- He played throughout the contest at Vitality Stadium and was influential for City
Pushing Premier League opposition all the way in the regulation 90 minutes, it was Enzo Maresca’s men who came out on top in extra-time at Vitality Stadium, courtesy of substitute Abdul Fatawu’s sensational goal. Everyone being fully behind the Manager’s ideas has been key to success this term according to Choudhury, who backs City to compete against any opponent having claimed success on the South Coast and tackled Liverpool in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season. The 26-year-old commented after full-time on Tuesday: “That's what we've worked on from day one; that’s what the Manager said before the game. It is as much as it is about the result as it's about our performance.
“That philosophy is brought into the team and wherever we are, whoever we're playing against, we all want to stamp our authority and our way of playing the game onto it and we've done it.
“We went away to Anfield in the cup and we tried to play our style of football as well and for large parts of the game we did and we played well, so to be able to do that, we were full of confidence to be able to come here to a Premier League side and do it again.
“I think especially the way we play, wherever you are, you're going to come into times where the other team have spells of pressure and you've got to be able to deal with it.
“Even the top teams, Man City, they come under spells where teams go long and you have to be able to defend and deal with it. We showed we can do that and hopefully in the future, we can do it a lot more.”
With a quarter-final tie at Chelsea to come for the 2021 FA Cup winners next month, there’s plenty to look forward to in the closing weeks of the season for the squad and the Foxes supporters alike. “It's another massive opportunity for show how good we are and how far we've come,” the midfielder explained. “The FA Cup is huge in England, such a big competition. We've got recent history in it.
“You never know with the beauty of the cup. It’s another opportunity to get to Wembley too and it's what all footballers dream of, playing in the biggest stage. Our travelling supporters are amazing and for them to come all the way down here on a Tuesday night, it's amazing and they helped us over the line if I'm honest with you.”
Bouncing back from successive league defeats, attention has quickly turned back to the Sky Bet Championship and Saturday’s meeting with Queens Park Rangers at King Power Stadium. Although Choudhury went through 120 minutes, there should be some fresh legs in the camp with nine changes made on Tuesday evening. He added: “After every game of football, the legs are sore, it's a bare minimum that you have to put 100 per cent in and enjoy doing that, so I do. It's always worth it when you hold on and win a game like that.
“I think some of that we've probably been lacking over the last few games, just holding on and digging deep in the final minutes, and we showed that we can do it. Winning games puts you back on the right track, regardless of the competition.
“We won tonight and we go again on Saturday. Just to get back into the rhythm and winning again, I think that's what has brought us so far and there's only 12 games of the season left, so it's in our hands and we know what we have to do.”
