It proved to be a strong end to the year for Enzo Maresca’s men, who ended 2023 top of the Sky Bet Championship, having scored 18 times across the month of December. LCFC Women, meanwhile, earned two precious Barclays Women’s Super League points on the road ahead of their winter break.

A list of eight contenders are on the shortlist from both teams, with Harry Winks’ last-gasp winner at West Bromwich Albion making the cut, as does Stephy Mavididi’s second goal against Plymouth Argyle. Mavididi has two other nominations – his goal against Ipswich Town and first strike at Birmingham City respectively.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s goal in that game is up for the prize too. The final strike of the calendar year, James Justin’s hit at Cardiff City, rounds off the Championship goals. Lena Petermann and Jutta Rantala both found the net impressively against Brighton & Hove Albion Women last month and are also nominated.
