Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall says Leicester City Under-18s can take pride from the 2-1 victory over Carlisle United in the FA Youth Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.
City booked a next round clash with Middlesbrough courtesy of first half strikes by Calvin Ughelumba and Elliott Webber but they had to defend smartly to stop the Cumbrians from scoring a late equaliser.
Speaking to LCFC TV at full-time, midfielder Dewsbury-Hall said: “We’re delighted in the changing room. It was a tough game. In the first half we went 2-0 up and we were cruising but we made it hard for ourselves.
“We’re a tight knit group and we all work for each other. They did well and they gave 100 per cent but at the end of the day we had a bit more than then.
“[Cameron Yates] made some great saves at vital points. He’s a great ‘keeper but we shouldn’t have been in that position but he’s done well so we’re happy.
“We had a great start and went 2-0 up and had more chances. We’re disappointed because we had about six or seven clear-cut chances.
“We need to go back to the training ground because against the bigger teams we need to take them.”
Looking ahead to the fifth round trip to Middlesbrough, Dewsbury-Hall admitted that he expects a tough encounter but reiterated his confidence that City can progress in the competition.
“We’ve played Middlesbrough before, they’re a good team who play good football with quality. We need to be on our A game, it’s a big game but if we take our chances I’m confident we’ll go through.”
