- LCFC Women take on Liverpool in the Barclays Women’s Super League- Sunday’s fixture at Prenton Park has a 2pm kick-off- The Foxes lost 2-0 to Manchester City last time out- Molly Pike says that they will concentrate on ourselves
Last weekend, the Foxes were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City at King Power Stadium as two second half goals from Khadija Shaw and Chloe Kelly guided the Citizens to all three points. But on Friday afternoon, midfielder Pike told the media that there is plenty of football still to be played, and that every member of the squad is confident of retaining their Barclays Women’s Super League status. “It is a big game for us, but every game is a big game,” Pike explained ahead of Sunday's 2pm kick-off. “We go into each one with the same mentality that we need to win and get points. So, everyone is feeling good going into the weekend.
“We're very focused on ourselves. We're the only people that we can control. We can't control what other teams do. So we are very team focused and we’ll do the best we can do.
“Everyone feels like we are going to stay up and we know that games are important and the vibe around the changing room and the training ground is really good.
“Each and every player and staff members all buy into it. So, I do think that's very important for us and it keeps the confidence up, knowing that we play for each other as well.”
After defeat to Man City, the former Everton player described how manager Willie Kirk has opted for honesty around the training ground, and that this approach has made everyone feel together as one.
“We talk a lot about being open and honest with each other and taking accountability, and I think to hear that from your manager is very good for players,” she continued.
“Of course, if we've done something wrong, we can say it. So, it's good to have that open space and honest environment with each other.”
Looking ahead to this weekend, City's No.8 is excited to get going and hopefully display some of the football that got the Foxes’ faithful off their seats in their win against Brighton & Hove Albion. The 22-year-old added: “We're going to treat it like every other game. So just to play as we can, and concentrate on ourselves, and not on other teams and play the Leicester way.
“Yes, they're a good quality team, they're very aggressive, and we know that it's going to be a very aggressive game. Both teams have got a lot to play for, so it will be a good, interesting game.”
