- Ex-Leicester City captains Steve Walsh and Matt Elliott star on LCFC Radio's Extra-Time show- The two Foxes favourites reflected on the Club's positive overall start to 2020/21- Walsh and Elliott also looked ahead to the visit of Aston Villa after the international break
The company of presenter Dan Bates, two iconic former Leicester City captains, Steve Walsh and Matt Elliott, dissected the weekend's football for an hour on the Club's online radio station.
Also on the agenda on Monday's show was City's encouraging start to 2020/21, which leaves them third in the Premier League, as Walsh and Elliott provided their thoughts...
A deserved Hammers win
Steve Walsh said: “That intensity wasn’t there. You look back and we cost ourselves really because of a couple of mistakes. Hold your hands up because West Ham played really well. You can’t take that away from them, but it wasn’t the usual Leicester. It just wasn’t like us at all. On a different day, we could have had a bit more luck, but West Ham deserved to win, and Brendan’s held his hands up and said that.”
Lessons to be learned
Matt Elliott said: “West Ham played like a top team. They were getting at Leicester and stretching them. We speak about lessons to be learned, and you hear it said a lot. It’s hard to define it, and if there was a magic potion for the players, they’d give it to them, but it’s about playing to that high level in every game.”
The Leicester rollercoaster
Steve Walsh said: “It always has been [a rollercoaster] since I first joined in 1987! You just don’t know what’s going to happen next. It was a game we all thought we’d win, but we didn’t. When you look at other results, it doesn’t look that bad, but you never like being beaten at home.”
An encouraging start
Steve Walsh said: “It’s an encouraging start, let’s not take away from that. We’ve got a young team and these lads are developing still. It’s a learning process, and as long as they don’t keep making these errors… there was only one or two. They’ve got to learn from it, and they will. It hurts, I hated losing.”
Villa's confidence
Matt Elliott said: “Villa are going to have that confidence now with what they’ve achieved. The dynamics of the Premier League have changed. They’re going into that game and Leicester are really going to have to dig in. They’ll have to earn that right, and then go and do their stuff. You have to be adaptable as a group of players.”
Barnes' England call-up
Matt Elliott said: “It’s amazing news for Harvey [Barnes] and it’s about time because it’s justified. We’ll have to see how much opportunity he gets, but a lot of players these days are being given a chance to get a little bit of experience. Lots of young players are getting opportunities early on, and ultimately, that will be a good thing for England.”
