The festive season is usually a busy one for the Club’s mascot with Christmas parties and local visits aplenty and hundreds of presents to give out ahead of the big day.
However, over a Christmas like no other, Filbert had to be creative, hosting an interactive virtual quiz for Junior Fox Members, which included a special appearance from Santa Claus himself.
The event also included a message from midfielder Youri Tielemans and an opportunity to win a 2020/21 shirt signed by City’s No.8, which was presented to Daisy, aged nine. “I can’t believe I won Youri Tielemans’ shirt, he’s one of my favourite players!” she said. “It was a brilliant surprise before Christmas. I only became a Member this season.
“The best thing about being a Junior Foxes member is the Club run special events and competitions, especially for Members. It’s only because I’m a Member that I had the opportunity to be in the competition.”
As well as sending out Christmas cards, signed by Filbert himself, to Leicester City’s Junior Foxes, the Club’s beloved mascot also compiled activity packs for young fans to complete at home.
With topics ranging from Science to Maths, English to Geography – all with an LCFC theme – schoolchildren of all ages were kept engaged and entertained during the winter break.
Also included was a chance for youngsters to design their very own Christmas cards for a Foxes star of their choice - with one winner having their artwork presented to the player in question.
Jude, aged 10, was the lucky winner, while also receiving a LCFC hamper which included flags, soft toys, a 2021 wall calendar and stationery items to equip him for home schooling in the New Year.
Another participant, Felix, also took part, with dad Toby saying: “Our club’s junior engagement has been so important and special, not just this year but for the past six years my boys have been Members.
“To find that level of interaction is not easy to achieve and speaking to friends who are members in other clubs, they have nothing like what we get at Leicester City.
“My youngest son, who is now nine, struggled throughout lockdown and without any form of football felt quite angry and distressed, making home teaching and parenting really challenging.
“The booklets, Filbert's videos, challenges and messages were something for him to look forward to and he always completed them without being asked.
“Not only were the booklets interesting, following a Leicester theme, but they also supported Key Stage Maths and English. To use the differentiated levels was perfect for me to use with both my boys.”
