- Leicester City players donate Christmas presents to young people- Club Mascot Filbert Fox delivered the gifts on behalf of the First Team squad- Beneficiaries include Leicester Royal Infirmary, Rainbows Hospice, The Beacon CAHMS unit and the Diana children’s community nursing service
The entire First Team squad have donated funds towards Christmas presents for youngsters at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Rainbows Hospice, The Beacon CAHMS unit and the Diana children’s community nursing service - all of which were delivered by Club mascot Filbert Fox!
Gifts ranged from toys and games to books to arts and crafts, and were dropped off by Filbert in time for the big day!
Club captain Wes Morgan said: “We usually visit the children’s ward at the Royal Infirmary to hand out Christmas gifts each year, however things are obviously a little different this time and we haven’t been able to go.
“The lads still wanted to play their part in helping to spread some Christmas cheer during a difficult time though, so this was the least we could do, and it’s great we’ve also been able to support patients at The Beacon, the Diana service and Rainbows this year too.”
The children’s ward at LRI provides care for a range of conditions, from surgery and cancer to emergencies and broken bones, while Rainbows Hospice gives vital care and support to families impacted by life-limiting conditions.
The Beacon unit, run by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) at Glenfield Hospital, meanwhile, offers a positive environment for young people who need mental health inpatient care, supporting them, and their families, on the journey to recovery.
LPT’s Diana children community nursing service care for children with terminal illness or life-limiting conditions in their homes.
Kasper Schmeichel said: “The Christmas visit to LRI is a big occasion for us as players each year and it really means a lot to us. It’s disappointing not to be able to meet the children and their families this year, but the donation made by the lads will hopefully help to raise their spirits and bring some joy into their lives.
“Our visits to the hospital over recent years have really made us appreciate what we have and appreciate our health and everything that goes with it, so on behalf of the players I’d like to wish everyone at LRI, The Beacon, the Diana service and Rainbows a Merry Christmas.”
