- LCFC Women beaten 2-1 by Reading in the Barclays Women’s Super League- Royals score twice after 90 minutes to claim their first WSL victory this term- City's Natasha Flint had put the Foxes ahead at Select Car Leasing Stadium- The forward gave her thoughts on the game to LCFC TV after the final whistle
Flint’s first-half stunner looked to have sealed a first three points of the season for the Foxes on Sunday, but Rachel Rowe’s brace, scored in the 90th and 92nd minute, condemned them to a sixth-straight Barclays Women’s Super League defeat. Speaking to LCFC TV following full-time, City’s No.7, who was making her seventh appearance of the season and fourth start across all competitions, gave an honest assessment of proceedings and how the final few minutes unfolded in Berkshire. “To concede late on in the game is a bit gutting,” she commented. “But we do know that’s what Reading are good at, getting goals late on, especially in the 90th minute or around that time, but we need to do better in that situation really.
“To get the first goal of the season is good, it felt good. But it doesn’t feel as good now we’re coming away with a 2-1 defeat.”
Leicester were defensively solid throughout the game and were on course for a maiden clean sheet this term until the late drama. Flint felt the Foxes had carried out their tactics well, after a tricky opening, but fine margins dictated the final outcome.
The former England Under-23s international explained: “We stuck to the game plan we had. In the first 15 minutes, I think we made it a bit difficult for ourselves, we didn’t execute a few balls in behind where we probably could have done better.
“Then after getting the ball down on the floor and playing, we were fine. But the defeat was just gutting. When we come up against Reading next time, we know we need to be better in the last five or 10 minutes, and especially if it goes into 96 minutes like it did today. We’ve got to better at that.”
Moving on to Arsenal, who the Foxes face in the WSL at King Power Stadium on Sunday (2pm GMT kick-off), the forward knows that the team must now pick themselves up quickly for that and focus on the next task in hand. The 26-year-old added: “We’ve got to review it, put it behind us and just go onto the weekend’s game ahead of us, when we’ve got Arsenal, which is going to be a tough game for us.
“Of course, every game this season is a difficult one and it’s always going to be. But hopefully we can take the positives out of today.”
