- LCFC Women beat Liverpool 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Prenton Park- City booked their place in the semi-final of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup- Jutta Rantala scored twice on Merseyside- First Team Assistant Manager Jennifer Foster discussed the victory
Leicester booked their spot in the semi-final of the FA Cup for the first time in their history with a convincing win against Liverpool at the home of Tranmere Rovers. After the game, Foster spoke to the media and discussed the character and positive desire from the players to secure the triumph.
“The character right to the end was brilliant,” the Assistant Manager voiced. “We got what we deserved, and I said to the players before the game that if we executed what we needed to, we will get the result we wanted.
“We know our strengths and we know the strengths that Liverpool have and it was key for us defensively to land on those second balls and limit as many shots as possible and we did that.
“There was one or two moments where we lapsed in concentration and they almost capitalised, but that was the wake-up call for us, and we shifted up a gear. I can’t fault the players today.”
Jutta Rantala scored both of the Foxes’ goals on Merseyside and takes her goal tally up to eight in her debut season with the Club. The Assistant Manager was delighted with the Finnish forward’s performance but went on to talk about several other players, such as Swedish midfielder Emilia Pelgander who earned her first start, and the team effort as a whole. “We know Jutta Rantala’s quality when it comes to those moments,” Foster continued. “But that’s the thing, every single player played their part today. It was great to get the goals, but for her to do that made the difference.
“Sophie [Howard] is just one of those players that you know what you’re going to get, especially in those big games, she’s come up with those moments. It’s difficult to play against some of these strikers we face but she was fantastic today. “Since Emilia [Pelgander] has come in, we knew her quality and she was going to get her chance at some point. She did today and she was fighting for her duels and she brought that calmness, so I'm really pleased for her and she can push on now.”
Foster focused on the match performance, and was keen to praise Leicester’s display against the Reds.
She added: “The players were focused, because we’ve got that experience in the team. For them, the focus was how do we beat Liverpool, and we did that today.”
