- Four of five Leicester City loanees appeared over the weekend- Callum Elder and Elliott Moore enjoyed positive results for Wigan Athletic and OH Leuven- Harvey Barnes and Nampalys Mendy, however, suffered defeats at Barnsley and Nice
While Bartosz Kapustka did not appear for SC Freiburg during their 1-1 draw with Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga on Sunday, it was another busy weekend for four others. Harvey Barnes, the Club’s 2016/17 Development Squad Player of the Season, appeared for 64 minutes during Barnsley’s 1-0 home reverse to Hull City in the Sky Bet Championship. The Tigers, who went into the clash at Oakwell without an away success in 427 days, emerged from South Yorkshire as victors courtesy of Frazier Campell’s 78th minute strike.
Barnsley are currently 19th in the second tier and next face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon (12:30pm kick-off).
Callum Elder, meanwhile, played the full 90 minutes in Wigan Athletic’s 3-1 win at Blackpool in League 1, thanks to Chey Dunkley (2) and David Perkins efforts. The Latics are riding high in the third division and sit just two points behind pacesetters Shrewsbury Town with 11 wins from 15 so far this term.
They host Middlesbrough U21s at DW Stadium on Tuesday in the Checkatrade Trophy (7:45pm kick-off).
Academy product Elliott Moore continued his impressive form for Belgian Proximus League leaders OH Leuven during a 2-2 draw with title rivals Beerschot Wilrijt at Olympisch Stadion on Sunday. Nigel Pearson’s side remain top on goal difference with 23 points and welcome fifth-place Royal Union St Gilloise to Den Dreef at King Power Stadium on Saturday (7:30pm kick-off).
Elsewhere, in France's Ligue 1, Nampalys Mendy also completed another full run-out for Nice but was unable to prevent a 2-1 defeat by Strasbourg at Allianz Riviera. Nice next face Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes on Friday night (7:45pm kick-off).
