The Bridge is a Leicester-based charity that provides support to any adult experiencing homelessness in the city, including those who are rough sleeping, sofa surfing, and people who are in temporary accommodation.
Taking essential items such as clothes, toiletries and food on their visit, all of which were funded by the players, they helped to put together care packages to be distributed to homeless people in the city.
They met some service users, staff and volunteers at the centre to hear about their stories, while also serving teas and coffees.
Academy graduate Dewsbury-Hall, who grew up in Shepshed, explained what it meant to be able to make a small contribution to the lives of some of those in the city, especially at this time of year. He commented: “We’ve been down today to give back to parts of the community with a lot of gifts for those who are less fortunate. We’ve packed some care packages for people who needed some food, water and toiletries.
“We’re just trying to make a little bit of a difference here and anything we can do is a bonus. If they can have some food and drink, then we’re happy to do that and they are so grateful for it.
“It’s very important. Everybody knows that Leicester is a family club right from the top to the bottom. Doing things in the community is very big for the Club. The owner himself has said that it is a very important part of our identity.
“Doing this on a regular basis is always good and we continue to do so whenever we can.”
This was another example of the players giving back to the community ahead of the festive season, and follows recent visits to Graysford Hall Care Home in Stoneygate and Leicester Royal Infirmary, helping children and residents to celebrate Christmas.
