- Manager Brendan Rodgers reacts to Leicester City’s 4-0 victory over Stoke City in the Emirates FA Cup- The Foxes booked their spot in the fourth round and will discover their opponents on Monday- James Justin, Marc Albrighton, Ayoze Pérez and Harvey Barnes were all on the scoresheet
City booked their spot in the fourth round as James Justin opened the scoring on 38 minutes before Marc Albrighton, Ayoze Pérez and Harvey Barnes were on target after the interval. It proved to be Leicester’s biggest away victory since their 9-0 win at Southampton in October 2019, and after the triumph, Rodgers highlighted why City were able to record such an impressive win. “I thought we stretched the game,” Rodgers told LCFC TV. If you play against a back five, and their wing-backs jump to press your full-backs, it’s important that you can really stretch the pitch. “Some of our combination play was really good and it created good opportunities for us.”
City will discover their next FA Cup opponents on Monday, when the draw for the fourth round takes place, and Rodgers emphasised his side’s desire to progress as far as possible.
“We want to do well in the competition,” he added. “We’ve obviously got a really good squad, but having that week’s break, I wanted to keep the flow in the game with the players.
“Like I say, it keeps them in rhythm. Now, they have a week off before the next game.”
