_- It’s Derby County up next for LCFC Women in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup__- The Foxes are entering the competition at this fourth round stage on Sunday_- Attacker Missy Goodwin previewed the 3pm kick-off, City’s first game of 2024- She explained the importance of the team’s preparation for this fixture
A frustrating end to the calendar year saw the Foxes concede late goals to draw each of their final two Barclays Women’s Super League games in 2023, but having put that behind them, focus has shifted to the fourth round of the FA Cup against third-tier Derby.
“We feel disappointed with the last two games before Christmas,” the winger admitted, speaking ahead of Sunday's 3pm kick-off at Don Amott Arena. “The break came at a good time for us to reset and have that refresh.
“It’s nice to have a different competition from the league to get us back up and running before we go back into the league. Cup games are always a nice change from league games, so I think everyone is excited to go into it and we’re just preparing for it in the right way.
“We always prepare for a game the same and this one is no differently. We’ve analysed them as we do normally so we definitely will not be taking this tie lightly.”
Facing another Midlands side adds an extra layer to the tie, and while the Ewe Raws will have home advantage, Goodwin is expecting a strong following from Foxes fans in Mickleover.
The England Under-23s international continued: “It’s a new goal with Wembley at the end of it. It’s a derby so it will be a good game and you know stereotypically that anything can happen in the cup but if we prepare well for it, we’ll be fine.
“With it being a derby and so close, hopefully there will be a lot of fans there, both for us and Derby. It’s a big game for the fans and a big game for us so hopefully we can please the fans.”
