- LCFC Women face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon- The two sides meet at Brisbane Road for a 2pm GMT kick-off- Leicester sit seventh in the Barclays Women’s Super League- Sophie Howard previewed Sunday’s action with LCFC.com After confirming their spot in the final four of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, Leicester return to WSL action this weekend in the capital, meeting Spurs at Brisbane Road. Knowing that a win could move them into the top-half, Howard spoke about how far the team have come over the last 12 months. “I’m excited to get back to league action,” the defender stated. “We know Tottenham are a good side but we know that if we perform well on the day, then we can beat anyone.
“The biggest thing is that the Leicester we used to be isn’t the Leicester we are now and who we want to be going forward and that’s the biggest thing. We stay humble, we stay focused, and we work hard on ourselves, and let the football do the talking.
“We don’t look at the table too much and just know that it would be another win. All we can control is our performance so that’s how we look at it.
“We’re fully aware of the table and what a win could do for us, but we’re going to focus on our performance and make sure we get the win, before seeing what happens.”
Leicester have turned things around in 2024, winning six out of nine games, including a 2-0 victory over Liverpool last time out at Prenton Park.
Claiming a clean sheet was valuable to the Scottish centre-back as she commends the teams’ effort to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Merseyside.
“It was a clean sheet that we needed because we haven’t had one in a while,” Howard continued. “The performance from the whole team defensively was outstanding and we could only do it together as a collective.
“The way we played as a team spoke for itself. It was an absolute battle from every single player. I don’t think it was our prettiest performance, but we showed a different side which I’m happy about and I think we deserved the win.”
Spurs are currently sitting three points and one space above City in sixth and the 30-year-old says the team have done their homework on the London outfit.
Sunday will be the first of two trips to Tottenham as the sides will meet once more in April in the FA Cup, but City's No.5 explains how the Foxes are focused on what’s in front of them.
“Spurs are a very good side,” Howard explained. “They’ve brought in a new manager (Robert Vilahamn) who has a certain way of playing which we’ve analysed.
“They have very strong players on the pitch, but so do we. We know it’ll be a tough game; it was a tough game when we played them at King Power Stadium, but I know we can beat them.
“It’s always bizarre knowing that you’ll come up against the same opposition twice in a short span of time, but even though the draw happened, we knew we were going back to league action so that was our focus.
“Any team that we would’ve drawn would’ve been a tough game because there’s a reason that these four teams are in the semi-final.
“I don’t see it as a test match because it’s two different competitions, but both games will be tough, for both sides, but we’re very excited to get back to league action before facing them again in April.”
