- Albrighton discussed just how special it is to feature in a local derby
With two fixtures in the space of five days, Leicester City winger has no doubts that it will be an important week for his side.
While the Foxes take on Swansea City in the Premier League on Sunday, focus first switches to Wednesday evening’s Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round .
The clash with the Rams, for Albrighton, provides City with a chance to boost confidence with a victory, which in turn they can use as a platform to build on heading into the trip to the Liberty Stadium.
The wideman told LCFC TV: “I think this is a really important week for us because we’ve got a great opportunity against Derby. The atmosphere will be brilliant because it’s a local derby that both teams want to win.
“We want to progress in the cup and it’s a great chance for us to build a platform and take some confidence into the weekend’s game.
“All we can do is work hard. Obviously we need to pick our performances massively because they’re not good enough at the minute, but we’ve got the ability in the side and work rate in the side to come through this. We want to get confidence from each game.
“We’ve got ourselves in this situation and it’s only us who can get ourselves out of it. The ability is there and the work rate is there so we need to put it all together on a regular basis and win football matches. We’re trying to put things right.”
The excitement of playing in an East Midlands derby is not lost on Albrighton, who believes that the Blue Army will help create another brilliant atmosphere at King Power Stadium on Wednesday evening.
“It’s a local derby under the lights at King Power Stadium,” added Albrighton. “It’s going to be a special night.
“The Leicester fans were fantastic and I’m sure Derby will bring a fair few over to us on Wednesday night too.
“It’s surreal when you walk out and hear the fans singing from the first minute. With a derby game, it has an extra edge to it, so you don’t want to put a foot wrong. On the other hand, you want to be the one that grabs the headlines and gets the winning goal.”
