Combining fun-filled family entertainment with elite horse racing in Oadby, this is the third year that King Power have invited the people of Leicestershire to share in another of their sporting passions after City’s Premier League return was sealed last month. Rossa Ryan's win for King Power Racing-backed Sergeant Wilko was the highlight for the Club's owners on Monday - celebrated by the large following at the racecourse in the heart of the county.
A chance to toast the Club’s Championship title glory in the Bank Holiday sunshine, Foxes fans were given discounted tickets for a day of high-octane horse racing. The feel-good factor was on show throughout a memorable day, as the Blue Army came together nearly a month after a historic season ended with Leicester taking home a fifth trophy of King Power International’s 14 years in the East Midlands.
Foxes legend Steve Walsh was among those in attendance on Monday and he said: “Following the season we've had, it's brilliant to be here. I've always loved coming to the races since 1986, when I first signed for Leicester. There's loads of Leicester shirts, it's wonderful to see. All the kids have got their shirts on, it's just great to see. All through the summer, we're going to see that, especially at a family day like today. It's brilliant of the owners to recognise that. Everyone's in a good mood and it's fantastic to see.”
As always, charity was at the heart of the event at Leicester Racecourse, with the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation donating race sponsorship to essential local causes. LOROS, Rainbows and Leicester Children's Hospital were among those to take up the offer, raising valuable funds and essential public awareness during the event in Oadby.
Through the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation, the Club is committed to supporting the people in Leicestershire. Last month, Khun Top donated £500,000 to the Foundation, with the funds set to be distributed to its chosen charities for the 2024/25 season, all of which make a huge difference to the lives of the people in our community.
Elsewhere, Matt Elliott, another iconic former Foxes skipper, added: “I'm enjoying this very much, as I have done previously over the past few years. It's a really enjoyable event. It's just a great atmosphere. The crowd's mounting up. A day at the races is always a jolly time and, after how things have gone with Leicester City this season, it's a feel-good feeling. The whole area is happy really. There's an extra vibrancy about the crowd today. There's definitely an extra spring in the step of everyone and they're can't be too many better ways to spend the day than this. Everyone's joining it and it's lovely to be a part of it. Charity is important to King Power and Leicester City and it's great to see it be such a big part of the day.”
