- LCFC Women visit Everton in the Barclays Women's Super League on Sunday- The 12:30pm GMT kick-off is the second meeting of the two teams in a week- Asmita Ale could make her Foxes debut after joining on loan from Spurs- Willie Kirk also explained his hope that competition for places can motivate the team
The Foxes head to Walton Hall Park to take on a Toffees side who they defeated 5-1 at Pirelli Stadium in the Continental Tyres League Cup on Wednesday, although admittedly with a much-changed XI from the visitors.
Speaking ahead of Sunday's Barclays Women's Super League contest against his former club, Kirk confirmed that one unnamed player sustained an injury concern in training this week. They will be assessed this weekend.
Ale, on the other hand, is ready for action after joining City on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season. With added depth in the squad, Kirk is hoping that can help the Club achieve its objectives by the end of the campaign.
On the player who will be monitored, Kirk said: "We’ll asses her this afternoon and hopefully she’ll be okay.
"Asmita Ale becomes available, which is good. It’s another addition, another number. We’re looking really strong in terms of options and numbers.
"The headaches now begin for me but it’s a headache that I’ve asked for and, now we’ve got the numbers and the quality, it’s about disappointing some people every week.
"But it’s always about putting the team first and selecting a team and a squad that we think is capable of winning on the day."
The competitive mood in the group can be a real positive motivator for the squad, so long as the mentality is right, the Manager also said.
"It’s a competitive atmosphere," he added. "We want them to be competitive with each other but also for each other. We know, that if we get training to a certain level, matches should become easier.
"That’s what we’re trying to get to and we had a really open and honest conversation this morning about the size of the squad now.
"We’ve got a training squad that’s probably going to be about 25 [players] at the end of the window, so it’s about competing against each other, but being really selfless and putting the team first – making sure that everybody’s contributing in different ways. If they do that, it’ll be a really enjoyable last 16 weeks and a really successful last 16 weeks."
