The Foxes have won three and drawn one of those previous five games, scoring 13 times in the process, recording convincing victories against Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Torquay.

City were beaten 2-1 by Hull City in their most recent opening day fixture, while a late strike from Chris Wood helped the Foxes secure a precious Premier League point against Everton on their return to England’s top flight in 2014.

Four days later, the Foxes began their Championship campaign with a 2-0 win against Peterborough.

Sean St. Ledger’s own goal meant the Foxes had to come from behind at the Riverside Stadium to earn all three points, as Danny Drinkwater and Jamie Vardy both scored in the space of seven second-half minutes. The opening day win sparked a run of seven games unbeaten in all competitions. City went on to win the Championship by nine points.

City’s first game back in the Premier League provided them with a huge test of character, as they came from behind on two occasions to salvage a point at King Power Stadium. But, typical of Leicester’s spirit throughout the season, they replied with just four minutes to play through Chris Wood, who tucked home and wheeled away in celebration.

City headed into the 2016/17 campaign with the task of first facing Premier League new boys Hull City. After a stoppage-time effort from Adama Diomande handed the Tigers the lead at the break, the Foxes started the second period brilliantly, as Riyad Mahrez converted a penalty won by Demarai Gray. But the champions were undone just 10 minutes later, with Robert Snodgrass’ half-volley winning it for the hosts.
