- LCFC Women face Coventry United Ladies at Farley Way Stadium on Sunday (1pm kick-off)- The Foxes continue to top the table, while United sit 10th in the FA Women's Championship- Remi Allen (knock), Paige Bailey-Gayle (MCL) and Charlie Devlin (concussion) are set to miss out- The mini-break has allowed the team to regroup, manager Jonathan Morgan adds
Remi Allen was forced off with a knock just 13 minutes into the crunch clash with Durham at Maiden Castle Sports Park two weeks ago, a game the Foxes won 2-0 to increase the gap between the top two to three points.
Allen, 30, has registered five league goals and nine assists so far this term and, although the experienced midfielder returned to training this week, she will not be considered for Sunday's fixture at Farley Way Stadium.
"She won't be available unfortunately," the LCFC Women manager revealed. "Today (Thursday) was her first day back in training, which was great, but Sunday is going to come that little bit too soon for her so we're going to play it safe.
"Remi is a big player for us so sacrificing one game to have her for future games is much more sensible and we're just happy that she's back into training and looking good again. Everyone knows Remi, she integral to our team and our play.
"It's no secret how great she's been for us this season both on and off the pitch. But what we did see against Durham after she came off is that the girls handled that fantastically. That was a big loss and we still managed to show our competitive side, which was pleasing for us."
Creative midfielder Charlie Devlin is set to miss the fixture in Quorn due to concussion, while forward Paige Bailey-Gayle will also be absent against Coventry, and for the remainder of 2020/21, after rupturing her medial collateral ligament during training in the week.
With five goals to her name during the Championship campaign, Morgan admitted it will be a big loss to be without the 19-year-old at this stage of the campaign.
He explained: "Yesterday (Wednesday) in training, Paige Bailey-Gayle picked up a ruptured MCL so she's out for the rest of the season now unfortunately. She should be back in pre-season if all goes to plan with the rehab and recovery.
"Paige has been fantastic for us, especially in the first half of the season, so we will lose a lot of pace and directness without her, but again she's in the right place, Susan [Dale], our physio, is the right person for her and will obviously get her back fit.
"We're so close to the end of the season and she wanted to be a part of every single game for the team and it's obviously difficult for her.
"We also have Charlie Devlin out, she's concussed and so we're following concussion protocols there."
Sunday's Midlands derby will be the Foxes' first competitive fixture since 14 March and the break has allowed the squad to regroup after a tough period of games, in order to prepare for the final run-in.
Morgan added: "After the Durham game, it was obviously very intense and very pressurised, so it was a welcomed week off for once rather than wishing we were getting back into the next game.
"A few of the players picked up little knocks in the Durham game, so it gave them a chance to recover and gave us a chance to have a few detailed conversations with the players to catch up, while focusing on the next game.
"It's three big players that are missing for the Coventry game. But we've got a good squad, we've got good girls and we've got depth within the squad, so we're still feeling very positive based on the showing in training this week."
