- LCFC Women face Liverpool this weekend in the Adobe Women's FA Cup- The quarter-final clash will take place at Prenton Park at 12pm- Leicester beat Everton 6-2 in the last round of the competition- A how to follow guide can be found HERE
An FA Cup weekend fast approaches for the Foxes, who face Liverpool at Prenton Park for the second time this season, when the two sides meet on Saturday's early kick-off of 12pm.
Before the game, here is the preview on both teams...
The Foxes camp
Leicester head into the fixture off the back of five wins from eight games, but most recently saw defeat to current champions Chelsea in a 4-0 scoreline at King Power Stadium which leave the Foxes in seventh place of the Barclays Women's Super League.
This weekend, however, provides a new focus and a shot of reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time in their short history, and City will be backed by several coaches full of fans supporting from the away end at Tranmere Rovers - you can reserve your space on Fox Travel HERE.
Shannon O'Brien remains sidelined for the cup clash, having picked up an ankle injury while on international duty with the England Under-23s. German forward Lena Petermann, who has scored five goals in her debut season, will be back in for selection having come on as a second-half substitute against the Blues last weekend.
The opposition
Liverpool currently sit fifth in the WSL, nine points above Leicester, already surpassing last year's total, and head into the fixture in good form; unbeaten in their last four appearances.
The Reds picked up a convincing 4-1 win at Aston Villa last weekend in the league, with Finnish full-back Emma Koivisto scoring a brace, while it was London City Lionesses who fell victim to the Merseyside outfit in the previous cup tie, as Sophie Haug and Melissa Lawley scored the decisive goals in the round of 16.
The goals have been shared around the team this season, and Liverpool have scored just once more than Leicester in the 15 WSL games this campaign; Marie Therese Höbinger the top scorer with four, and a further two assists.
In the dugout
Matt Beard resides in the dugout for Liverpool and recently moved to fifth on all-time manager wins in the WSL, with the Villa victory taking his tally up to 54, and just one behind Manchester United's head coach Marc Skinner.
The Englishman has 21 victories in his 54 games in charge, since taking over in July 2021. He has won the Women's Super League (prior to the formation of today's WSL) twice in 2013 and 2014, and most recently lifted a title in 2022 when the Reds clinched promotion back to the top flight, winning the Barclays Women's Championship.
Last time out
City have won three of their four last meetings with Liverpool, tasting victory on both league occasions last season. Their first was at Prenton Park when Hannah Cain swept home a winner in a 1-0 display, before the Foxes ran riot in April of last year, putting four past the visitors on Filbert Way.
Since then, both teams have improved and Liverpool came out on top during our last visit to Tranmere, when Höbinger netted a late winner, cancelling out Missy Goodwin's extraordinary strike in front of the away fans.
