- Lloyd Dyer thanked Leicester City fans for their welcoming reception on Tuesday night- The former Foxes winger started the pre-season clash at Pirelli Stadium- Dyer scored 39 times in 265 games during a six-year spell at King Power Stadium
The Birmingham-born wideman was a fans’ favourite during his six seasons at King Power Stadium, where he helped the Club to two league titles.
Dyer signed for City at the start of the 2008/09 League 1 campaign and went on to score 11 goals in all competitions to help them gain promotion back to the Championship.
Five seasons and 28 goals later, including 10 during the Championship-winning 2013/14 campaign, saw Dyer take his Leicester tally to 39 strikes in 265 appearances.
“It's been three years since I left, this is the first time I've played against Leicester since then and the fans were unbelievable,” Dyer told LCFC.com after Tuesday’s game.
“When you see what the Club's achieved in the last couple of years, you could almost forgive some fans for forgetting what went on before it, but that's not Leicester fans.
“They were always good to me during the time I played there and the reaction they gave me on Tuesday night was first class - a really nice touch.
“Obviously I was delighted for the players and the staff, but if anyone deserves the success the Club's had recently, it's those fans. Good people.”
Dyer received a heartfelt welcome from the City supporters in attendance at Pirelli Stadium and was even applauded when taking corner kicks in front of the away stand.
Grateful as always for the Blue Army’s support, Dyer continued: “Tuesday night was my first real chance to thank them for everything during my time at Leicester. I loved playing for the Club, had some great times there and made some friends for life.
“It’s nice as well because my son is a massive Leicester fan now, so they’ll be part of my life for a while yet!”
Dyer worked with current City boss Craig Shakespeare during two separate spells at the Foxes and the winger, who went on to play for Watford, Birmingham City and Burnley before joining the Brewers, is confident City are in for another productive season.
“I'm sure they'll have a good season,” Dyer added. “Shakey's (Craig Shakespeare) a top coach, he's got some good people around him and some very good players in his squad.
“There's definite potential for them to have another good year.”
