Matchday Minus Two - a 30-minute preview show broadcast two days before every weekend first team fixture - is free to watch, both for Digital Members on LCFC.com on @LCFC social media. On the latest episode, Taggart - a goalscorer for the Foxes against Red Star Belgrade in the 2000/01 UEFA Cup - reflected on Leicester's latest outing on the European stage...
Maddison’s anticipation
Gerry Taggart said: “When you look at it, what he does best of all, he doesn’t get involved. He anticipates when that ball drops down into that melee and he’s on the move in a supporting role. He’s standing there waiting to pounce and he knows the ball is going to drop it to him. He was there to stab it in, and it was great anticipation. He had a really good hour and had some great touches on the ball.”
Barnes’ decision making
Gerry Taggart said: “I think I got one right with my Man of the Match prediction last night! I thought Dennis Praet was excellent, more so defensively and breaking play up, but as far as being on the front foot, Harvey Barnes got Leicester into the attacking half and linked the play up. In the second half, he ran the Zorya back line ragged and we’ve talked about the fitness levels of Leicester in the past. His decision making is getting better and better all the time.” City’s springboard
Gerry Taggart said: “There are some big, big clubs in this competition and last night, Leicester City showed last night they’ve got a chance of doing well in this competition. After the last couple of results, last night could be a bit of a springboard for upcoming games.”
Talismanic Vardy
Gerry Taggart said: “He’s the talisman, especially when it comes to a team like Arsenal. It’s always an interesting game down there anyway. For whatever reason, he has that Midas touch. When you got into the game with him, then you have a better chance of getting a result.”
Improving Gunners
Gerry Taggart said: “Last year was a hard-fought draw, but you have to say, Arsenal have improved under Mikel Arteta, so it’ll be a difficult game, but there’s no reason why they can’t go down there and get a positive result. It’s a big job to go into at Arsenal, and I’ve been very impressed.”
Switching tactics
Gerry Taggart said: “Sitting here and trying to judge what Brendan Rodgers is going to do is difficult. You saw at Man City, we didn’t get out of our own half in the first half, but it was 1-1 at half-time, then we ran all over theme in the second half. Who’s to say he won’t use the same tactics at Arsenal? The players are used to switching tactics mid-game, and that wouldn’t surprise me. It’ll be interesting to see.” All times GMT.
