The Foxes need Premier League points after starting the 2022/23 season by collecting just one from six outings. Spurs, on the other hand, have won four of their opening fixtures and occupy third place in the table. Ahead of Saturday's clash in north London, here's what the manager had to say... The only way – The importance of hard work
Speaking to the media on Thursday, inside the King Power Centre at LCFC Training Ground, Rodgers explained how he and his coaching staff have worked with the players to build up their confidence. The Northern Irishman also challenged the squad to pick up their aggression levels in the capital. "Of course, it’s difficult in terms of results," he explained. "What we’ve tried to do is just keep the environment light. We understand we’re in a situation we haven’t been in before here where the results haven’t gone our way and the performances aren’t to the level that we would want.
"What’s important is that we continue to be brave. We have to continue to show that bravery. Sometimes when you’re not quite on your game, you can maybe lose that aggression, but you can’t afford to do that. You’ve got to still press the game and be aggressive.
"Importantly, you have to defend very, very well and collectively. We’ve been able to look at all those aspects of our game. Like I’ve said before [we’re trying to] bring a clarity and [we're] making sure the focus is there for the players. For me, it’s straight forward, we just come in to work.
"I enjoy working with the players and [we’re] just trying to make sure we can do the basics well."
City must now show 'grit and passion' in order to fix their early-season issues and rapidly climb the table, the former Liverpool and Celtic manager says.
"Everyone is very supportive and everyone’s still working very, very hard," he added. "I think there’s no other way. At times, you want to see that grit and passion within your workplace. That’s something we have here in abundance. Like in any sport, it’s not just about the talent.
"The ones that succeed are those ones who have that grit and that determination and that perseverance. That’s what we’re seeing. We’re seeing that from the players. We’ll keep pushing and we’ll get the result that hopefully will push us on and hopefully that’ll come sooner rather than later."
Play our game – Saturday's challenge
Rodgers is under no illusions about the scale of the task on Saturday as Leicester take on one of the league's in-form teams – a side who are yet to lose in the Premier League. However, with the right mindset, the 49-year-old hopes City can pick up a morale-boosting result this weekend.
"It's clearly a big challenge," Rodgers said. "They did very well last season. They got into the Champions League and have some very, very talented players. Antonio [Conte] works how he works and has got them very organised and they have that quality there.
"We know it’s a really difficult game at whatever stage you went there, whether you’re in your best form or not. Like I said earlier, you have to have that bravery. You can’t sit back and just let it happen.
"Our intention is to go and look to play our game, go and play with that courage that we’ve shown many times, and that aggression in our game. If we can cut out our mistakes, then it gives us a much better chance to get a result."
Ahead of the international break, which takes place after Saturday's visit to Tottenham, Rodgers is confident that Leicester can build momentum before the FIFA World Cup necessitates a break in the English football schedule over the festive period.
"We think, through to when the games finish in November, there’s a great opportunity to push on," he explained. "There’s no doubt we had a tough fixture list, but in saying that, we should have more points. You have to deliver and that’s what we aim to do.
"Listen, I totally get it, we haven’t made a good start at all, but I’m very confident in the players and from what I’m seeing. They’re very determined to get the result."
