Youri Tielemans, Çağlar Söyüncü, Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka all found the net for the Foxes at King Power Stadium over the weekend to secure a morale-boosting 4-2 triumph over the Red Devils. Russian giants Spartak, though, will pose a different test entirely in the Russian capital. Speaking in Moscow on Tuesday evening, shortly after City landed in the country, Rodgers outlined how tactical balance will come to influence how they fare at Otkrytie Bank Arena, while also challenging his side to maintain the high aggression levels in their game on Wednesday (3:30pm BST kick-off). "It’s balance, especially when you’re away from home," the Northern Irishman told the local and UK media. "We will set up to attack the game tomorrow. We want to be aggressive in our play and our build-up play. Our notion is always to accrue goals and score goals. Of course, you have to be in balance.
"There are going to be moments in the game where we will be under pressure and we have to stay calm under that pressure. Momentum is obviously very important. Winning after winning is also important. We’re very determined. We got back to our level at the weekend with our game.
"That was important. It’ll be a tough game for us but we’re looking to bring a similar performance and our mentality in the game. [Aggression] is our blueprint. That’s how we play.
"I’ve always said that those fundamentals of how we press, how we defend, how coordinated we are, how synchronised we are, that’s always been the key. That the allows us to attack well and create opportunities and hopefully we take those opportunities. That mentality was back into our game.
"It’s still very early on in the season and I’ve seen it… in our first game, against Wolves, in the first half, we were excellent. We dropped off a little bit.
"At West Ham, we were down to 10 men and then we saw in other games where we were just too passive. But the international break came at a great time for us to analyse and assess where we’re at at this early part of the season. We could put in place those ideas and reinforce what we’re about.
"We’ve seen the result of that at the weekend."
Rodgers was keen not to downplay the importance of Wednesday's clash, though, as Leicester look to improve on their record of one point from two games so far in Group C. Now is the time to add victories in Europe if they are to progress to the knockout stage, he says.
That task will be made all the more challenging considering the stature of Leicester's opponents, Rodgers believes. After drawing with Napoli on matchday one, the Foxes were defeated in Poland by Legia Warsaw last time out, while Spartak secured three points at Napoli on matchday two. "We want to go as far as we can and this is a big game for us," the 48-year-old explained. "We should have won against Napoli and the second game (vs. Legia Warsaw away) we lost, so that makes this a very important game.
"If we want to go far in the competition, this is a game that is going to be really important, especially with two games to go at home.
"They're a very good side. When you go to Napoli and you win, even though they have 10 men, they showed they have a lot of quality. I know Victor Moses very well. He's a fantastic player and he's playing for a very good team and a very good club. We anticipate a very tough game.
"We've watched their games and seen their qualities. You will have a few players injured, but the structure is very good. They have an excellent coach here with really good experience. He worked at a really high level and he understands how to put together a structure in teams.
"I'm really impressed with Spartak and how they play the game. Victor plays within that, but he's one of a number of very good players."
