Now in the Club's second successive campaign on the continent, the Foxes are looking to get a maiden win in the 2021/22 competition against Czesław Michniewicz's Legia outfit at Stadion Wojska Polskiego on Thursday evening (5:45pm BST kick-off). City, holders of the Emirates FA Cup will be taking on the Polish champions in the capital city, a side who also started their campaign with an impressive 1-0 victory over Spartak Moscow in Russia. Rodgers is well aware of the dangers at their disposal, but backs Leicester's ability in Warsaw. "It’s what football’s about," the Northern Irishman told the media on Wednesday evening. "You play and you travel around the world to play in great stadiums in front of very passionate fans. We’ve seen over many years that Legia Warsaw is a great club with really passionate supporters.
"It should be a great game and a great atmosphere and that’s always something you have to deal with when you’re away from home, especially in Europe. They had a fantastic result in their last game. I think they’re very, very well organised. The players are very committed.
"They have got some really technical, gifted players and in particular, in counter-attacks, they can give you a real problem. We obviously are very mindful of their qualities, but of course, we in the last game and a half have started to be more like ourselves in our football and our game idea.
"Hopefully, we can bring that to Legia and also make it really difficult for them."
Harvey Barnes, who preceded Rodgers on the top table during media duties, is one player who has flourished on the European stage for the Foxes and is now joint-top goalscorer for Leicester in European competition. A goal on Thursday could see him top charts including Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. "A lot of the players, over the last two and a half years, have shown a really consistently high level," Rodgers added. "People maybe see them as much more of a threat now, in particular Harvey, because he’s so fast. People want to get tight to him and double press him. He’s a wonderful talent.
"He’s getting back to the levels and I’m sure, over the course of the season, he’s only going to get better and better. He’s a really, really talented player.
"Whether it’s at home in the Premier League, or in European football, he’s a goalscoring threat and I think that’s developing all the time. Especially away from home, his speed in the counter attack, and his will now to get in and want to score can be important.
"Hopefully, he will do that over the course of the season, but he’s a very talented player, whether it’s Premier League or European football, he’ll always be a goal threat because of his quality."
Rodgers now hopes City can continue to thrive in European competitions over the coming years and the former Liverpool and Celtic manager believes every outing in the Europa League will help his players grow more confident at that level.
"That was the challenge coming in," he continued. "I said when I first arrived: Could we bring the Club into European football and grow and develop the name outside of our own league? In the last few years, qualifying for Europe has been great.
"It’s been a great experience and it’s something we will look to keep looking to achieve. As you say, it’s the ambition of ours to keep playing at the level, keep improving and keep developing and to have that hunger to be here.
"You have to earn it and that’s something we can hopefully do over this next number of years."
