Tactics and strategies were finalised on the training pitches at LCFC Training Ground this morning (Wednesday) with the Foxes undertaking their final session ahead of Thursday evening’s knockout round play-off first leg against the Danish outfit (8pm kick-off).
Once complete, City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi headed inside the King Power Centre in Seagrave, north Leicestershire, to speak to the media and look ahead to the first of two upcoming clashes with Thomas Thomasberg’s side.
During that pre-match press conference, the Nigeria international discussed the buzz surrounding European nights and the special occasions that they create for the players and supporters: “For me [in Europe], it’s the exposure, it’s the atmosphere and also the feeling.
“I’ve been playing in Europe and it’s really good because, for every player, you want to play in Europe. It’s a great plus for your career and I think it’s very good for us as players. Anything can happen.
“We look to do our best - playing our football, enjoying the game and winning games. It’s not the way the team is going now, but I think we are actually getting where we want to be slow and steady.”
Manager Brendan Rodgers soon took on media duties, with the 49-year-old keen to stress the significance of the competition to Leicester’s season and how it could also help to build up further experience within a youthful squad.
“In this competition, you're in it to try and win it, that's the idea," he told the press. “That was always our aim at the beginning of the season, to be in Europe. Every competition is important, whether it's the league or the cups.
"This is a real positive challenge for us, and we take that challenge on. It's no more or less important for us. It's an important competition for us. It's a great opportunity to go deep into European competition and extend the experience of our players, especially a lot of the young players.”
Later on Wednesday afternoon, Randers manager Thomas Thomasberg and midfielder Vito Hammershøy-Mistrati entered the media room at Leicester City Stadium to preview the fixture, after taking to the Filbert Way pitch for a final training session of their own.
The Horses, who qualified for European competition by winning the 2021 Danish Cup and then finishing second in UEFA Europa Conference League Group D earlier this campaign, have not played competitively since 12 December.
A series of seven friendlies over the past two months have filled the void left by the Danish Superliga’s winter break, with Randers sitting fifth in the 12-team division as thing stand, on 28 points from their 17 matches to date.
After acclimatising to the conditions and familiarising themselves with the setting for their maiden knockout fixture in European football, Randers are all set to play their part in another night under the lights on Filbert Way.
