_- LCFC Women defeated Liverpool 4-0 at King Power Stadium on Saturday- Josie Green, Carrie Jones, Ashleigh Plumptre and Missy Goodwin all scored- The Foxes have now recorded back-to-back Barclays Women’s Super League wins- Green felt City delivered when it mattered to come away with three points_
The midfielder opened the scoring within a quarter of an hour at King Power Stadium and things got better before the break when Carrie Jones doubled the Foxes’ lead. Ashleigh Plumptre then made it three, while Missy Goodwin rounded off the scoring in stoppage-time.
Leicester’s biggest-ever Barclays Women’s Super League win moves Willie Kirk’s side off the foot of the WSL standings and up to 10th, two points ahead of Reading, who now occupy bottom spot in the table.
“It feels great,” Green told LCFC TV in her post-match assessment of City’s second successive league triumph. “I mean, we've put in the work. It's been a few weeks since we've had a game and we've been really working hard on the training pitch and I think that showed today.
“We've just worked on us this whole week, focused on us and we know our work rate had to be there. It's such a high-pressured game for us, but I think we shown this season in high pressure games, that we deliver.
“We've been under the cosh this whole season and when we've had to deliver, we have. I couldn't have asked for anything more from the girls, and we just showed again what we can do.”
In front of a crowd of over 4,000 on Filbert Way, Leicester produced a stunning attacking performance, and the 30-year-old felt the Blue Army roared the team on to a second successive home league victory from the first minute.
“The supporters have been so good,” the former Tottenham Hotspur star explained. “You can hear them when they're on the pitch. They're like another person for us, so yes, it's been great. We love playing at home and I think that shows.”
Moving ahead, the Foxes travel to face UEFA Women’s Champions League Semi-Finalists Arsenal at Meadow Park on Friday (7:30pm BST kick-off). City will be heading into it with momentum and confidence.
The Wales international added: “We’re going to take the positives and rest and recover. It's only like a four-day turn around, but we're going into every game as a team, confident, and Arsenal will be no different. We’re looking forward to that one.”
