- Brendan Rodgers reacts to Leicester City's 2-2 draw at Southampton on Wednesday- The Foxes twice came from behind at St. Mary's Stadium- Rodgers was not happy with City's lack of concentration in the first half- Their performance after the interval was much more pleasing for the Northern Irishman
The Foxes twice had to fight back from behind at St. Mary's Stadium on Wednesday, after Jonny Evans and James Maddison levelled the scores following efforts from Jan Bednarek and Ché Adams for Ralph Hasenhüttl's home side. Speaking at full-time on the south coast, Rodgers felt Leicester did enough to take all three points from the encounter - with Harvey Barnes forcing an excellent save from Alex McCarthy and Jamie Vardy firing over late on - but highlighted isolated areas where his team must improve. "By the end, it was two points dropped," the Northern Irishman told the media. "At half-time, you might have taken the point. In the second half, the reaction was much better. Like I’ve said before, there’s a great resilience in our team.
"We had a great fightback in the second half, but in the first half, we didn’t take on the burden of the game. Even away from home, we’re a team that likes to get on the front foot, but we didn’t start well at all. That was the disappointment."
City's slow starts to games is an issue which Rodgers is determined to eradicate and the former Liverpool and Celtic manager can pinpoint where work is required.
"It's concentration," he explained. "It’s the lack of concentration, a lack of aggression in key moments of the game. That hurts us at times. The two goals were really poor goals to concede. That comes from not being aggressive enough and lacking concentration.
"Once we got through a few times, we looked a threat and we were dangerous. We needed to bring more energy and more quality into the game. I thought Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was outstanding in the second half. He did take the burden of the game. He wanted the ball, he wanted to prove a point. "He passed the ball, he was aggressive and, throughout the team, the play was much better. We started to look like ourselves then."
