Farley Way Stadium stages the first matchday of the season behind closed doors on Sunday in a 2pm kick-off between two sides looking to improve on their 2019/20 showings.
The LCFC Women squad has been bolstered by a host of new recruits over the course of the summer ahead of the team's first campaign as a professional women's side in the second tier. With excitement for the big kick-off building earlier this week, Morgan spoke to LCFC TV to preview Sunday's clash with Rovers and provide his verdict on pre-season. "Gemma [Donnelly], she sets a team up really well," he said, discussing Blackburn. "They're very efficient, they're effective in what they do, and we expect it to be a big battle of physicality.
"They've got very good individual players, in particular Saffron Jordan and Natasha Fenton. A lot of it will go through those two, and they have the quality to do damage, if you allow them.
"It's the first game of the season and no one knows what to expect, but all we can do is focus on what we've worked on, and make sure that we put that onto the pitch on Sunday."
After last season was curtailed in March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both sides will be running out competitively for the first time in six months in Quorn this weekend.
That break in play adds to the excitement for Morgan, who is eager to see how the Club's new-look women's side gels together this term.
"Any season is important, but I think, in this particular season, even more so for everybody because it's such a big morale boost," he continued.
"The fact that we've transitioned into being full-time, having a positive start is massive because we do know that we have that added benefit, compared to other clubs at this level.
"Mentally, the girls are ready for that challenge. It is a challenge for them, going from underdogs to being favourites.
"But it's something that we're looking to relish and looking to show why we should be seen as one of the top teams this season.
"Obviously, you enjoy pre-season, but nothing ever replaces the realism of a competitive game, when you've got points up for grabs and things to lose.
"Everyone's excited and you can see the excitement building massively this year, especially this week. I'm cautiously optimistic, but nonetheless still excited."
Morgan has been thrilled by the cohesion on show from his squad over the summer and believes that close-knit ethos could be key for the Foxes in the Championship.
"Squad harmony has been fantastic and they've all got on," he added. "They've done lots of bonding sessions this year, just for people to get to know each other.
"[It's] more about the person away from football. I think a lot of people sometimes forget that everyone is a human being in football, and it's no different with these girls.
"We wanted the girls to really understand each other as individuals, rather than just looking at each other as footballers.
"As a result, we've seen a better team cohesion and the squad ethics have been fantastic so far in pre-season. Everyone's pushing each other for that starting place on Sunday."
