- LCFC Women host Blackburn Rovers in the FA Women's Continental League Cup on Wednesday (7:45pm kick-off)- Manager Jonathan Morgan says the Foxes must recover quickly from a disappointing result on Sunday- Hard work has continued in training with an honest group analysis of that game, Morgan says- City and Blackburn are joined by Birmingham City in Group E of the competition
Following City's first FA Women's Championship defeat of the season in the capital, Blackburn Rovers are the visitors to Farley Way Stadium in the Continental League Cup (7:45pm kick-off).
Morgan was frustrated by the nature of Leicester's performance at Princes Park over the weekend, but has backed his players to recover quickly from that setback.
"We're quietly optimistic," he told LCFC TV this week. "Obviously, it’s a quick turnaround from Sunday. We’ve done a bit of preparation to reactivate the girls for tomorrow.
"We’ve got to turn up and put our best in and then I think we can come away with a victory. Blackburn are a very stubborn, physical team, but don’t be fooled, they can play football.
"I’m sure Gemma [Donnelly] is going to set her team up appropriately to give us a proper test."
Morgan also praised the squad for their mental response to Sunday's outing at London City, crediting them for the accountability on show in their analysis of the game.
"We did something different," he explained. "We allowed the girls to analyse the game themselves in mini groups, just to see how they saw the game, and it was very fruitful in terms of their opinions.
"They showed accountability, so because of that, we’ve firmly put that game behind us and we’re ready to go into the Blackburn game and the Lewes game on Sunday.
"It was a tough game to take because we weren’t at the races in any shape or form. There was a lack of desire in that particular game, but all teams have a bad day and that was ours.
"The girls have handled it very well. They’ve come in back fresh and they’re positive. Because of that, it’s allowed us to put it behind us now."
The Foxes have already defeated Rovers this season, on the opening day of the league campaign, with goals from Charlie Devlin and Natasha Flint (2) sealing a 3-0 triumph.
"It was the first game of the season and we were, by no stretch of the imagination, at our best, but we found a way to grind through that game to get a victory," Morgan reflected.
"Blackburn were defensively very resolute. They made it difficult for us to play through them and I predict they’ll do the same, especially with them coming to us in midweek.
"But we’ve taken enough from that game to know where we can exploit them and how we can do that. It’s down to girls to put what we’ve done in training into the match."
