- Jonathan Morgan was disappointed with LCFC Women's first-half performance on Sunday- The Foxes drew 2-2 with Durham at Farley Way Stadium in the FA Women's Championship- Morgan credited the second-half fightback from City, which included an injury-time equaliser- He says the point could prove an important one come the end of the season
Victory looked to be Durham's as they led 2-1 in stoppage time, before substitute Lachante Paul's equaliser levelled matters at Farley Way Stadium and ensured the points would be shared in Sunday's Championship encounter. While Morgan felt City battled hard to earn a point in the dying moments, he also believes the team could have played better for the full 90 minutes, after twice going behind either side of the break.
"It was nothing like what we saw last week in the game against Man City unfortunately and, as a result, Durham went in with a deserved 1-0 lead," a frustrated Morgan told LCFC TV post-match. "We went in at half-time quite disappointed, in the second half I think we came out and showed resilience, but the mood is disappointed.
"I was really pleased for the likes of Freya Thomas and Lachante Paul when they came on as they really affected the game in a positive way. "Lachante started to cause a lot of problems down that right side and rightly got her goal, which she deserved. It was a bit of relief but we know Lachante can score goals, we know she's got that technical ability.
"I think it was really harsh on her not starting this week after the Man City game, but obviously Tash [Flint] came back and she was still our top goalscorer so it was a difficult decision to make. "But what you've got to give Lachante is that she came on and she affected the play and she got us a big point. And that's all that matters at this moment in time."
Durham, who have also made an unbeaten start to the season, deserved credit for the way they played, particularly in the opening 45 minutes, according to Morgan.
He continued: "Taking nothing away from Durham, they were fantastic, they battled, they were resilient. They played some good football going forward as well, hit us on the counter attack quite a few times with some flowing football.
"But I think a lot of that was given because of how we were in the first half to be fair. We feel we are a better team than what we showed today."
Leicester face Liverpool at home next week and Morgan wants to see an improved performance when the Merseyside club travel to Quorn FC on Sunday 11 October (2pm kick-off BST).
"I've said to the girls, the last two games, we felt we should have been better and we don't feel like tactically teams did anything that we didn't expect," the LCFC Women manager added.
"I think what the other two teams had over us was a lot more heart. That was very much apparent in the first half today. When you look at Sheffield United, Durham, Liverpool, they are the title rivals, so to not drop points against them is still good, it evens things out.
"When we go and play some of the other teams, we can hopefully catch up the points. It has put a bit of pressure on the Liverpool game, but we rise to those challenges.
"We're going to work hard to make sure we are ready for it next week and look to go and get the three points as we always do."
