- LCFC Women return to the league schedule this weekend, taking on Lewes Women at Farley Way Stadium (2pm kick-off GMT)- The Foxes are level on points with Lewes in the early standings, who sit behind City on goal difference- LCFC Women manager Jonathan Morgan previewed the fourth vs. fifth clash- He hopes the work on the training pitch can pay dividends come Sunday, with Leicester looking to return to winning ways in the Championship
The south coast side are the latest visitors to Farley Way Stadium, following the Foxes' midweek home victory over Blackburn Rovers in the Continental League Cup.
Ahead of this encounter, Morgan spoke to LCFC.com about why it was important for the majority of the squad to get minutes in the tank on Wednesday and boost morale by recording a 5-2 win.
“It’s good to get back out there after last weekend and register a win straight away," Morgan commented. "I think the girls showed great resilience to bounce back after the disappointment of losing to London City Lionesses.
“We’ve not obviously had a lot of time on the training ground this week, but we’ve had enough to make sure we know what our game plan is and what we expect from Lewes to hopefully get another three points at Farley Way.
"Hopefully they will take what we’ve worked on in the last couple of days and bring that to the pitch on Sunday."
City's next opponents have been one of the surprise packages in the Championship so far this season, sitting fifth in the table, level on points with the fourth-placed Foxes.
Morgan admitted he has been impressed with what he has seen from Simon Parker's side, who have kept four clean sheets from their six league games to date.
“They’ve accumulated more points than they have done at any point at this level, they are defensively solid and not conceding goals very often," LCFC Women's manager explained.
"Simon [Parker] has clearly got them set up to play a certain style of football that he sees suits their players and obviously now they’re seeing the results from it.
"But I think most importantly from the games that I’ve watched of them, they look like a team that has a really good spirit and ethic. You can tell they are all working for each other on that pitch and they all want to fight to get as many points as possible.
“We have to think about ways to break them down and also not to allow them in behind us as well, so it’s not just about scoring the goals.
"Against London City we were quite open, which we’ve worked really hard on this week to make sure that we don’t repeat those mistakes again. We have some quality attackers and we can use any one of them and on their day, they’ll score goals."
After tinkering with the starting line-up in midweek, getting back on track in the league is Morgan's main priority, especially given the possibility of moving closer to the summit of the league table.
He added: “We’ve got good squad depth, for us it’s what game suits certain players. We’re playing teams that set up defensively against us and as a result that will obviously support some players better than others from a tactical point of view.
“We’ve been able to utilise our squad to make sure that we feel as coaches we’ve put out the strongest XI for this particular game, based on the way Lewes play.
“It’s a big week for Lewes and ourselves. Liverpool and Sheffield United are also playing each other as well so we both know that we can either make up ground on Sheffield or pull away from Liverpool.
"From our point of view, it’s very important that we get back on track with three points and I'm sure Lewes will be thinking the same thing."
