- LCFC Women drew 1-1 with West Ham United at King Power Stadium- Lena Petermann and Honoka Hayashi scored second half goals on Sunday- The Foxes are eighth in the Barclays Women’s Super League with 10 points- We need to build on what we’ve produced in the first half of the season, says Courtney Nevin
Leicester shared the Barclays Women’s Super League points with West Ham following a late injury-time equaliser from Honoka Hayashi. Disappointed to let another lead slip in the league, Nevin believes the break in fixtures has come at the right time for City, who need to reset and iron out some issues within their game to start positively in the New Year. “It’s a frustrating result,” the Australian international explained. “We’ve gone into the game, gone 1-0 up and then conceded in added-time which I think is disappointing because we’ve done that in most games now.
“It’s very frustrating to drop points, and we’ve got to take the positives out of it and take it as a learning point, going into the New Year with positivity and fix a few things over the break.”
Lena Petermann broke the deadlock with her fourth goal of the season, but City were undone by a late cross into the box which Hayashi managed to squirm past Janina Leitzig. Disappointed to not see out the game and claim all three points, City's No.2 understands that Leicester are a work in progress at the moment, but work must be done to prevent these mistakes reoccurring in the second half of the season.
She added: “I think we lost ourselves a little bit and lost our concentration. We did well in the second half, and we did well to get the goal, but the loss of concentration is what cost us at the end.
“We need to go away, get a break and come back into training, work hard and really focus so that we can build on what we’ve produced in the first half of the season.”
